Photography exhibition “JADROLINIJA” by Katarina Radonić (at the Small Salon of Flora Gallery)

On Sunday, 13 September 2026 at 8:00 PM, as part of the Red History Museum’s “Gallery in Exile” programme, the photography exhibition “JADROLINIJA” by photographer Katarina Radonić will open at the Small Salon of Flora Gallery.

Katarina’s first encounter with Jadrolinija was Perast, a ship she remembers today mostly because the older residents of Koločep continued to simply call Postira “Perast” long after Perast was gone.

Postira, however, was her first love. As a child, she travelled aboard it to visit her grandmother on Koločep, and the ship became inseparably linked to her earliest memories of the island.

Later, while living in Italy, she frequently travelled between Ancona and Split. She had always been fascinated by the aesthetics of Jadrolinija’s ships, their distinctive Yugoslav aesthetic and the atmosphere of another era. Having always been drawn to things with a retro feel, character and soul, she came up with the idea of photographing the ships and preserving at least their images before they gradually disappear into oblivion and give way to new, futuristic vessels.

The photographs presented in the exhibition preserve memories of the interiors and exteriors of some of the ships and ferries that continue to connect towns and communities along the Adriatic coast.

Their role extends far beyond their function as a means of transport. They become a kind of extension of the road across the sea, delivering essential goods and providing access to various services, taking pupils to school, workers to their jobs and patients to their doctors, connecting two separated shores, as well as friends and families.

Through their documentary nature, the photographs in this exhibition become recorded moments – small fragments of the millennia-long history of travel, connection and life on the Adriatic.
