We invite you not to one, but two openings of the exhibition "Critical Tourism" on November 15th at the Flora Mediatheque and on November 16th at the Museum of Red History, both starting at 7:00 PM.
The exhibition presents a selection of works by artists created in production or co-production with the association siva) (zona, a space for contemporary and media art from Korčula, which includes three exhibitors who are members: Darko Fritz, Edita Pecotić, and Ivan Ramljak.
The exhibition curator is Darko Fritz, and the featured artists include Boris Cvjetanović, Jana Dabac, Vitar Drinković, Katerina Duda, Darko Fritz, Dina Gligo, Vedran Gligo, Igor Grubić, Božena Končić Badurina, Andreja Kulunčić, Jelena Lovrec, Maja Marković, Edita Pecotić, Ivan Ramljak, the Reciplaža project (Valerija Jurjević, Sanda Hančević, Darko Fritz), Ilija Šoškić, and Vice Tomasović.
About the Exhibition: "Critical Tourism" entails a critique of unplanned touristification and a reflection on its social and aesthetic connotations. It focuses on modeling an interdisciplinary critical discourse that questions the economic pursuit of a tourism monoculture in Croatia and elsewhere, as well as its consequences on cultural, social, and spatial development. The exhibition showcases a selection of works by artists created in production or co-production with the siva) (zona association, a space for contemporary and media art from Korčula, reflecting on the various, mostly negative, impacts of tourism, with an emphasis on the concept of common goods within a community, such as public space and infrastructure.
The artists critically address tourism, using it as a medium to comment on and critique dominant social and cultural practices, emphasizing the ethics, poetics, and politics of space. Its methodologies can be applied as a case study to similar tourist locations/destinations around the world.
The exhibition at the Flora Mediatheque is part of the Annual Program of the Mediatheque for Contemporary Artistic Practices, while the exhibition at the Museum of Red History is part of the museum's annual exhibition program.
